Hello, potato state! Who knew Idaho was so pretty? We arrived in Coeur d'Alene, ID early afternoon and have spent the last couple hours wandering through the quaint town. The town sits on the north shore of the 25-mile Coeur d'Alene Lake, which is at the base of gorgeous snow-covered Rocky Mountains. The weather here is perfect with no-jacket temperatures. Coeur d'Alene has a population of around 34,514 and is 30 miles east of Spokane, Washington. Barbara Walters even coined the city "a little slice of Heaven."
The drive from Butte to Coeur d'Alene was jaw-dropping. The road weaved next to the Clark Fork River and over mountain passes, around the same area the movie "A River Runs Through it" was filmed. The glistening waters below the pristine mountains was an unforgettable site.
Last night's concert in Butte received rave reviews from our host families and locals. Many choir members weren't happy with one song in the performance, but said they cleaned it up nicely and hope to improve throughout the week.
The Butte locals who hosted us in their houses were gracious and accommodating. The general consensus is that Buttes (that's what I'm calling Butte residents) are awesome. After the 24-hour bus ride from Iowa, everyone was happy to have a bed and a shower. Their moods on Friday morning were quite the contrast from Saturday morning.
It's around 4:30 here and the choir is rehearsing at Trinity Lutheran Church as the church members prepare what smells like a great meal.
Check back soon for a video interview with Michael Tallman, choir chaplin.
